I'm Janice Wood, originally from the USA. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I have also lived in San Francisco, Olympia, Portland and Seattle.
I worked for 25 years as a self-employed information systems consultant, the last years for Nike. This brought me to Laakdal (Belgium) a number of times since 1996, each time for a period of 3 months. I ran into the man of my dreams in Hasselt and stayed put after that. We were married in 2000 and I achieved dual citizenship a few years later. I feel very much at home here.
By 2002 I had lost my passion for IT work and I decided to shift my attention to fostering wellness through bodywork. "Kenzen" is, in fact, the Japanese word for wellness.

I began my search for the treatment methods that best suited me with a one-year sport massage program to gain a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology and basic massage techniques. At the same time I began my 3-year training in Shiatsu. I wanted to learn both Eastern and Western bodywork styles, knowing they would complement each other and that it would allow me to better support the needs of my clients.
A 5-day Rebalancing summer introduction workshop in 2003 made a huge impression on me -- I became convinced that working in a state of being present, of being curious without judgement, was something I wanted to emphasize in my practice. So I followed the 3-year Rebalancing training while finishing up my Shiatsu training.
The more I realized how common trauma is for all of us, and certainly for my clients, the more I wanted to develop a more refined way of working with trauma. Somatic Experiencing, another 3-year program, was naturally my next step.
Since 2003 I've also followed numerous workshops and masterclasses in the spirit of continuing education... learning is a lifelong process for me!
I've been officially retired since 2019 but I remain active in my practice. I love my work. Every day I get to work from my heart; I touch people and am, in turn, touched. Helping people make closer contact with themselves brings me closer to my own self. I am incredibly grateful that I can do this work.
